Description :

Handwoven Wool Zapotec Rug

This textile is a handwoven Zapotec rug, handcrafted by indigenous artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico

Featuring a centralized elongated diamond motif and multi-colored geometric bands, these flat-weave wool pieces are highly valued both as floor area rugs and decorative wall hangings

Key Characteristics & OriginsOrigin: Woven on traditional upright shuttle looms primarily in the historic weaving village of Teotitlán del Valle in Oaxaca, Mexico

Material: Typically crafted from 100% sheep's wool, often using natural plant and insect dyes (such as cochineal and indigo) to create earthy tones

Design Distinction: While frequently confused with Native American Navajo rugs or New Mexico Chimayo textiles due to shared geometric aesthetics, Zapotec weavers use a distinct set of traditional pre-Hispanic and colonial motif patterns.

Measures 52”x85”
