Description :

Vintage 1940 Neptune Model 10 A1 "Junior Single" 1.5 HP Outboard Motor – Parts / Restoration Project

A rare piece of American marine history!

Vintage, single-cylinder 1940 Neptune Outboard Motor (Model 10 A1, Serial No. 34560 D1), originally manufactured by Muncie Gear Works, Inc. of Muncie, Indiana. Introduced in 1940, this lightweight 1.5-horsepower utility motor is an iconic piece of pre-war American marine engineering and a direct predecessor to the famous "Mighty Mite" series.

This motor is being sold AS-IS for parts, restoration, or decorative display. It is incomplete but features several highly salvageable original components.

Powerhead / Cylinder: The cast-iron cylinder block is intact with its original mounting studs. The combustion chamber is currently exposed. Notably, it features the original two-stroke deflector-head aluminum piston. The internal cylinder walls show typical minor age, but are free of severe destructive scaling or deep mechanical scoring.

Lower Unit & Propeller: Features the original two-blade aluminum weedless propeller and an uncracked lower skeg. The gearcase housing halves are structurally intact with original hardware.

Flywheel & Magneto Assembly: Includes the original cast-aluminum top flywheel with the integrated rope-pull start configuration.

ID Plate: The original brass identification plate on top of the flywheel is fully intact and highly legible, preserving the original stamping, model details, and vintage Mobil oil/grease lubrication specifications.

Missing Parts: Please note this motor is missing its original wrap-around fuel tank, carburetor assembly, exhaust/muffler components, cylinder head, and spark plug
