Description :
Vintage 1979 Mattel "Black Barbie" (Model No. 1293) – Never Removed From Box (NRFB) & Factory Sealed Exceptionally well-preserved, investment-grade example of the historic 1979/1980 Black Barbie by Mattel, designed by the legendary Kitty Black Perkins. As the very first African American doll to officially bear the "Barbie" name, this piece features the iconic front-box tagline, "She's black! She's beautiful! She's dynamite!" This specimen is completely factory-sealed with both the top and bottom flaps firmly intact, never opened, and strictly Never Removed From Box (NRFB). The box retains its vibrant, rich pink coloration with zero sun fading, showcasing remarkably crisp corners and razor-sharp edge lines that exhibit virtually no bowing or shelf crushing. The clear viewing window remains securely attached to the cardboard frame without any cracks or splits, showing a uniform, light golden-amber aging tone characteristic of late-70s Mattel plastics. Adding to its unique historical provenance, the front upper-right corner displays its original retail clearance sticker sequence, mapping its department store journey down to $3.95. Inside, the doll is perfectly anchored in her original cardboard insert, her signature afro hair remains undisturbed, and the textured red disco bodysuit and iconic gold chevron collar piece are pristine. A stellar, high-grade entry for the discerning pop-culture historian or advanced vintage Barbie collector. Please see all photos for exact condition details. Box: 13"T x 4.25"W x 2.25"D Count: 1 item
