Description :
This is an Early 18th Century French Régence Dore Bronze Bombe Commode, a rare and exquisite example of French furniture design from the Régence period (circa 1715-1723), which served as a transitional phase between the grand, formal style of Louis XIV and the more playful Rococo of Louis XV.
The bombe shape of the commode, with its outwardly curving sides and front, is a hallmark of the Régence style. The commode is richly adorned with Dore bronze mounts—gilded bronze hardware and ornamentation—highlighting its grandeur and luxury. These mounts are often finely cast and detailed with foliate motifs, scrollwork, and rocaille elements, adding elegance and sophistication.
The commode is crafted from exotic woods like rosewood or kingwood, laid out in elaborate marquetry patterns. The top surface is a rouge marble, enhancing both its aesthetic and functional appeal, as marble was used to provide a durable, lavish surface.
The piece reflects the high level of craftsmanship of the early 18th century French cabinetmakers, combining beauty and functionality. As a fine example of Régence furniture, it would have likely graced the interiors of an aristocratic residence, symbolizing status and refined taste.
