Description :

(2) 1970’s Offset Lithographs By American Artist James Bama

“Dean Moore - Cowboy, Half Indian, Descendant of Red Cloud”

Created in 1973 by the American artist James Bama. It is an oil on Masonite piece. James Bama is known for his realistic depictions of Western American culture, and this portrait is a notable example of his work. Bama frequently focused on capturing the authentic faces and details of people living in the contemporary American West, such as cowboys and Native American individuals, often using models from the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. The work captures a powerful, intimate moment, emphasizing the subject's character and the rich textures of his clothing and the striped background.

12.75”x11” matted under glass in a oak wood frame.

Chester Medicine Crow With His Father’s Flag”

Chester Medicine Crow, the son of a prominent 19th-century Crow chief. The portrait was painted by James Bama in 1972, making Chester the first male Indian the artist ever painted. The flag in the background is his father's 46-star American flag, which dates back to around 1900. The print is a limited edition lithograph, signed and numbered by the artist. James Bama noted the irony of Native Americans using the American flag motif, despite historical injustices, and that Chester was proud of his heritage and accomplishments.

12.5”x12.5” matted under glass in a oak wood frame.
