Imperial German Model 1889 Cavalry Officer’s Dress Sword (Kavallerie-Degen M1889), manufactured between 1894 and August 1914 Historical Background: The M1889 was the standard-issue sidearm for Prussian and Imperial German cavalry units (such as Hussars and Dragoons) leading up to and during World War I. While troopers carried plain, service-weight versions, officers and non-commissioned officers frequently purchased privately tailored "dress" variations. These presentation models boasted heavily etched blades celebrating their specific regiment, nickel-plated hilts, and sharkskin or bakelite grips wrapped in wire The Unit: Custom-ordered for a member of the elite Prussian 8th Hussar Regiment (Husaren-Regiment "Kaiser Nikolaus II. von Russland" No. 8), stationed in Paderborn Etched Text On Blade: "Hus. Rgt. Kais. Nikolaus II v. Russland (1. Westf.) No. 8".This text translates to the Husaren-Regiment "Kaiser Nikolaus II. von Russland" (1. Westfälisches) Nr. 8 (The 8th Hussar Regiment, "Emperor Nicholas II of Russia", 1st Westphalian) The Crossover Appeal: Features the royal cypher "N II" of Russian Tsar Nicholas II, who served as the regiment's honorary chief until the outbreak of World War I. Thank you for your participation! Placing a bid is an agreement to purchase. If you win, you must pick up your item(s). If you default on your purchase, your bidding privileges may be permanently revoked. Do not bid if you do not intend to purchase. If you bid, you MUST be available/arrange for pick-up of purchases on the pick-up date unless you have made prior shipping arrangements. Bring necessary tools and help for picking up large items. Loading assistance is NOT available. Some items may be located on a 2nd floor or out-building. Invoices are emailed to winning bidders once the entire sale has closed. If full payment is not received before the pick-up date and time, the items will be forfeited, and bidding privileges revoked. Pick-up address will be e-mailed and texted at 5am the morning of your scheduled pick up day. All items not picked up during the designated times will be considered abandoned and may be donated or resold. At our sole discretion, an alternate pick-up time may be arranged. If this is possible, an appropriate fee may be charged. A 15% Buyer's Premium and Sales Tax are added to the winning bid amount when invoiced. Sales tax is waived for licensed re-sellers that provide a current Washington Re-seller's Permit. We make every effort to describe lot items as accurately as possible. Expect normal signs of wear associated with antiques, vintage, and used items. We do not list every flaw. Sparks Estate Services does not guarantee the working condition of any item, although we test when possible. Dimensions given may be approximate. All items are sold AS IS WHERE IS. No refunds or returns.
