Description :

Rare Antique Ezra Fitch Patent "Swing-Out" Style Pocket Watch Case by Crescent

Beautifully preserved, authentic 18-size (18S) Open-Face Pocket Watch Case manufactured by the historic Crescent Watch Case Company. This piece features the highly desirable dust-proof and moisture-proof swing-out mechanism, initially designed under the famous Ezra Fitch April 17, 1879 patent.

Key Technical Specifications & Details:

• Manufacturer: Crescent Watch Case Co. (Newark, New Jersey)

• Grade: Century (Double-stock silver-filled finish, originally featuring Crescent's famous 100-year durability guarantee)

• Estimated Production Year: Circa 1893–1899

• Case Size: 18-Size (American Horology Standard, approx. 56mm outer diameter)

• Serial Number: 30508 (Stamped cleanly inside the case back)

• Configuration: Open-face layout with an independent, threaded screw-front bezel and glass crystal. Built primarily to house classic American lever-set watch movements.

Condition Report:

This donor housing is structurally sound and complete, making it a spectacular project piece for watchmakers or historic preservationists looking to case an unhoused 18S Elgin, Waltham, or Illinois movement.

• Exterior: Displays a rich, authentic aged patina with natural tarnish, soft surface character scratches, and slight cosmetic pitting expected of a 130-year-old survivor. The back is entirely solid with zero puncture spots or structural thinness.

• Interior: The inner case wall features beautiful, vibrant engine-turned (perlage) concentric patterning. All original maker stamps, trademark moon/star logos, and patent inscriptions remain sharp and highly legible.

• Mechanics: The screw bezel threads cleanly, seamlessly tightening down onto the body framework. The top crown and heavy bow loop remain robust and secure.

A pretty rare and unique find!
